Futen’s Lockface USB flash drive uses face recognition for identification
Looks like Thanko now has a rival when it comes to providing unusual USB products. Futen is also a Japan-based company that offers a new USB flash drive which surprisingly utilizes face recognition technology to identify its owner, the USB device is called Lockface.
The Lockface magic only works with a computer web camera, but first, you’ll have to register several photos of your face to enable the USB device verify your face every time you need an access to it. Thankfully, it does not require any supporting software to be downloaded or installed.
If you don’t want to go with that process, you can still be classic and use a password which will cancel the face recognition function. The USB flash drive utilizes a 256-bit AES to encrypt the data and the company claims that the storage device would have only about 2% of error rate.
Initially, it will only have a 4 GB capacity model which measures 22 x 4 x 55 mm. However, the company have plans of expanding the range and will have more models with larger storage and memory.
The Futen Lockface USB flash drive sells for $110 now and available in Japan. No words about outside release but you can contact Japan Trend Shop, Geek Stuff 4 U and Rinkya.
