Top Tips for Your iPad (Part 1)

The Apple iPad.
1. Add more apps to your Dock
The default number of apps you can have on the iPad’s dock is limited to four. However, you can add two more for a total of six apps for easy access. Just press and hold any apps on the Home Screen that you want to move and wait until the icons start to wiggle — then simply drag them to the Dock. Voila.
2. Rearrange your apps
Likewise, you can move the apps around to a different screen just by tapping and holding the icon.
3. Group your apps
You can also organize your Home Screen by grouping the apps based on their categories. Since the iPad has a much bigger screen, grouping the apps would make it easier to find and launch them.
4. Use Spotlight to launch apps and find files
Alternatively, you can use Spotlight to launch a specific app, instead of going through several Home Screens. Press the Home button to go the first screen of your Home Screen, press the button one more time to launch the Spotlight. You can also bring up the Spotlight feature by swiping to the right. Type the name of the app and just tap the app you want to launch.
You can also use Spotlight to look up for song files, Contacts, mail messages, events and more — since the feature basically searches for everything on your iPad.
5. Take screenshot of your iPad
You may want to show off to your friends your wallpaper or collection of apps. Simply press the Power and Home buttons simultaneously for half a second. Your screenshot will be stored automatically in the picture library.
6. Mute your iPad
Since there is no dedicated mute button on the iPad, you can use this neat trick instead. Just press the volume button for a couple of seconds and it will mute the iPad.
7. Soft reset your iPad
If for one reason or another your iPad starts to freeze, just press the Power and Home buttons for a few seconds — the iPad will restart on its own. You can also force quit an app from running by pressing the Home button for a few seconds.
8. Access iPod easily
Oldies but goodies — you can access your iPod simply by double-pressing the Home button.
9. Lock screen rotation
If you don’t want your screen to automatically rotate, simply flick the switch above the volume controls. This means you can view your iPad in horizontal or portrait mode even if you change position.
10. Add other function to your Home button
When you double-click the Home button, the default setting will take you to the Home screen. However, you can change and set it to launch other apps instead, such as the Spotlight or iPod. Go to General -> Home and change the setting there.
11. Change your wallpaper
Changing your wallpaper is easy on the iPad. If you want to use a custom image you have saved from Safari, go to Settings -> Brightness & Wallpaper. Flick to the right to go to Saved Photos and select the image you want to have as wallpaper, then press Set Home Screen.
12. Get only the notifications you want
Tired of getting those annoying pop-up notifications on your iPad? Go to Settings -> Notifications and decide which notifications and alerts you actually want to get.
13. Protect your iPad’s apps with password
In the wrong family member’s hands, it is possible that they could accidentally buy every song there is on iTunes using your credit card. It is possible to password-protect apps to avoid this. Go to Settings -> General -> Restrictions. Then press Enable Restrictions and type your password. You will then be given the options to turn on restrictions for the apps.
14. Delete apps
Regret buying an app from the App Store and don’t want to see it taking up your Home Screen space? Delete it by tapping and holding on the app icon until it wiggles — then tap on the X button.
15. Reinstall deleted apps
Regret deleting the app from your iPad and want to get it back? Go to App Store and click buy. Don’t worry — you’re not actually buying the app again, you will see a prompt telling you that you have bought the app and be given the option to reinstall it.
16. Turn off that annoying keyboard clicking sound
Some prefer to have that satisfying clicking sound on their iPad’s keyboard, but if you’re not one of them, you can easily turn it off by going to Settings -> Sounds. Change the Keyboard Clicks to OFF.
