Intel to Acquire McAfee for $7.68 Billion

The acquisition deal is worth $7.68 billion.
During a meet with the media, Intel CEO Paul Otellini said that security is the third pillar of computing — the other two being energy-efficient performance and Internet connectivity. He expressed Intel’s intention to enhance the overall security of their hardware and software solutions by acquiring McAfee.
Though the deal has been uninamously approved by the board of two companies, the finalization of the merger will have to wait until the deal is cleared by regulatory authorities.
Some analysts are questioning Intel’s motive to acquire McAfee, since they believe that computer security nowadays is already an integrated part of the Operating Systems. Something that Intel clearly isn’t in. Apart from that, Intel also has some bad history when it comes to following up on its purchase. Several companies that Intel has bought in the past have become irrelevant in the market.
Another analyst believes that this is a good move made by Intel, as long as it can integrate the process of selling security software for every microprocessor that the company sells.
