Move Over Paperbacks, E-books to Dominate 2011
The introduction of Amazon’s e-book reader device, the Kindle, has ignited interest in e-books reading among avid and savvy literature lovers. The Kindle is so successful that it has consistently become Amazon’s best selling products – with recent sales show that e-books have actually surpassed those of hardcovers on Amazon’s website. Taking this into consideration, Amazon’s Senior VP Steve Kessel confidently predicted that Kindle book sales would surpass paperback sales before the end of next year – that’s 2011.

E-books will dominate sales in 2011.
However, the figures would only apply to Amazon’s own sales and it wouldn’t represent sales numbers from other stores or the entire book industry. Still, the fact that Amazon is now one of the world’s biggest online booksellers gives a clear sign of the popularity that e-books have been enjoying in the last few years. Even Apple is trying to cash in on this surge in demand by introducing its very own iBooks bookstore for iPad.
Following iPad’s launch, Amazon quickly slashed the price of its Kindle and introduced a new and revamped Kindle. Though not yet featuring color display, the new Kindle feature an improved e-Ink screen – one that offers 50 percent better contrast and legibility – but somehow lacks that wow factor for casual readers.
If Amazon wishes to remain ahead of the competition – we can’t help to think that like it or not; it needs to make that switch to color display.
