Mac Malware OpinionSpy caught in Downloads
Fresh off the reel in relation to Microsoft’s retort against Google’s Windows security snub comes what seems to be described as a very high-risk spyware/malware exploit that is affecting the OS X computers; according to a security firm, Intego, the spyware—of which they like to call the OpinionSpy of which is also identified otherwise as the PremierOpinion, is somehow being distributed through various screensavers for OS X.
After being installed, it is said to be capable of “scanning files to recording user activity, as well as sending information about this activity to a remote server that will open a backdoor on infected Macs.”
According to some intensive research, the program is said to be showing the marks of ComScore by means of the VoiceFive networks subsidiary, and is said to be downloaded as part of the installation for various screensavers. Some of the affected apps show indications in the ToS that a certain “market research” program was installed but actually is not.
Even if the OS X users would uninstall the said screensaver, still, it remains in the system and somehow updates itself behind the bushes; Intego would obviously like you to buy their anti-malware apps for Mac to get rid of the malware and protect your system from being infected with it in the future.
