Compact Flash to get 5.0 Specification
Many people believe that Compact Flash storage solutions are not as mainstream as Secure Digital which covers more devices but with the area Compact Flash is covering, the demand for better performance is higher that is why the 5.0 specification for the format is being worked on.
The 5.0 Compact Flash specification will be covering higher performance in terms of speed and capacity which just rolled over all memory cards when Compact Flash starts talking about specification 5.0 which would be packing a lot more than any other storage device has at the moment or will have for a while. Compact Flash is commonly used for high end cameras and current standards put it at 28 bit capabilities and with the Compact Flash 5.0 it would almost double over at 48 bit being able to handle at least 144 Petabytes, yes Petabytes not Terabytes, it’s the next in line in the storage capacity terms which is not yet achieved by any mainstream storage at this moment.
Hitting the Petabyte mark for a memory card would be amazing but it wouldn’t be available just yet, give it a few years or so.
