Garmin’s 1490TV GPS with DVB-TV capabilities

Garmin has a new and innovative GPS navigation device awkwardly named nüvi 1490TV, or simply 1490TV. This device comes with road maps of Europe that are very detailed just like how Garmin always does. It will also offer free premium traffic updates as well as information about webcam surveillance displayed on the screen.

The 1490TV’s 5 inch screen display along with a mount is just the right size to place it anywhere inside the house, caravan or car. The company thinks that the introduction of this GPS system’s DVB-TV capabilities is a good idea due to the upcoming FIFA World Cup for sports enthusiasts. However, most viewers more likely want to watch sports or games on a larger screen.

The digital terrestrial TV and Radio networks are very popular and in larger numbers in the UK, but for other European countries, this extra feature might absolutely be not useful. The 1490TV will also sport Bluetooth connection for pairing it with mobile phones.

Garmin’s 1490TV GPS navigation device will be available starting by April 2010. There are no official announcement about the device’s pricing yet.
