Optima OP5-E MID, the first non-Nokia Maemo device
Maemo devices are usually associated with Nokia due to its several Maemo units presented to the public. But this time, another company seems to be initializing its own version of Maemo devices with the launch of its new Maemo MID. Optima have launched the Optima OP5-E which is the first Maemo MID not coming from Nokia.

The Optima OP5-E packs a 4.3 –inch resistive WVGA touch screen display together with an up front VGA camera for making video calls and a camera with 3.2 megapixel resolution located at the back for taking photos while viewing them on the monitor. It runs an 806MHz Marvell PXA310+ ARM central processing unit along with an integrated 3G CDMA and it will acquire HSDPA by next month.
Wireless connectivity includes GPS capability, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth and there’s also a microSD card slot present for expanding the storage for up to 16 GB. The whole Maemo MID measures 143 x 74 x 17.6 mm and the 2,600mAh removable battery can power the MID for video playback with an estimated time period of 8 hours.
No TV output found but Charbax reckons that the VoIP possibilities present in the Optima OP5-E Maemo MID would be one of the major edge of the unit. It sells for $500 and is already unlocked.
