Ning officially announced 37 million users
New Ning COO Jason Rosenthal disclosed at a Ning’s developer event that the company already has 37 million users, together with 1.6 million of Ning networks created. Ning also stated that the number grows by a million every couple of weeks and out of the 1.6 million networks, 20% of the active ones are utilizing at least one of the company’s application.
Ning also added that each network installs more than two of its applications. Since the company launch its application directory, over 100 applications are apparently created and submitted. The company also brought TokBox and Box.net to discuss about how they have utilized the developer platform to incorporate with their products to Ning.
Diego Doval, Chief Product Officer also discussed some future improvements to Ning’s services such as analytics for Ning apps, and a payment service for the developers who want to market their applications. The company also initiated the Ning Appathon Contest, which sole purpose is to push developers to create on the recently launched Ning Developer platform. The winner will receive $5,000 and there are also prizes for the 2nd and 3rd placers.
